Development of ministry

Sika with school children_1.JPG

Background

Pastor Sika was a school teacher before being called by God to enter the ministry full time. From 1991-1993 he completed many bible courses by correspondence from the Baptist Mission of Togo, and others from Western in 1996 and 1997. Then he attended the Bible Institute of Bérée, based at Cotonou in Benin from 2000-2003. After graduating with a diploma, he spent the following two years studying further bible courses in Bohicon, Benin, and participating in various seminars in Togo. He and his wife became involved in ministry first to orphans, then prisoners, and then children in general before starting Baptist Bethania church in Lomé in 2003, and later two other village churches in the Interior of the country. Since then the Prisons, Orphanages and Children's Ministry has developed to become a well-organized and nationally recognized ministry.

Translation work

After contacting us in mid-2007 and receiving our materials, Pastor Sika immediately began to study our children's ministry correspondence course and teaching materials. He quickly became convinced of the need to translate them into French so that they could be more widely used in French-speaking West Africa. Already in 2008/9 we have been able to help Pastor Sika get over 2,000 Promise Books in French printed locally. This photo shows him with a group of local teachers holding the promise books, each of which contains 75 different scripture promises from the Bible. Considering that churches and bibles are both very rare in the interior of Togo, Pastor Sika feels these little books will be of great value as evangelistic and discipleship tools as his team plants new churches and ministers there. Sika also has a team of teachers working on translating our children's ministry seminar lessons into French so that more children's ministers can be trained.
